Featured Blog: Pure Outside

Karl Woll | September 15, 2009 1:04 pm

Pure Outside is good local outdoors blog I’ve been following for a while now. A lot of the posts are about hiking, and have a Vancouver Island focus, but they also do a good job of covering the spectrum. Running, biking, travel, trip reports, whatever you’re after, be sure to add this one to your feed reader.

We all want to get outside more. Well, most of us do. It’s the greatest feeling in the world to be happy, outside, in the fresh air. Forget the noise, smog and people of the city and head outside into the wilderness where there is so much to see and do. You don’t need to pay for any of it, it’s all there for the taking.

This site is for Awesome Series. It began as the Friday Awesome Series where a few friends decided to make one day a week awesome and outside. It didn’t matter where or how just the activity was awesome and it was outside. From the Friday Awesome Series, it went to Sunday Awesome Series and then to any day a few of us could get out and enjoy the air, the trees, the dirt and the water.

It’s all about doing something outside. Back to where it’s pure, it’s fresh and it’s Awesome.

Think pure. Think outside.

Featured Blog: A Mountain Top High

Karl Woll | July 19, 2009 2:27 pm

A Mountain Top High

There’s a good outdoor blog I’ve come across recently called A Mountain Top High by ‘Wildermiss’. From Vancouver, she says she writes the blog to “quench my wander lust when I’m stuck in the city. As I slowly build my outdoor skills hopefully I can share a tid-bit or two that will help to enable your adventures”.

About this blog: I need an outlet from all the days spent in the concrete jungle. I’m hoping to find a network of like minded outdoor enthusiasts to connect and converse with. I also hope to provide some tools for beginning hikers/campers/outdoor etcetera-ers to enable their own adventures.

About Me: I started backcountry camping in the fall of 2006 and have been slowly building my experience and my arsenal since then. I believe in leaving no trace, in encouraging others to experience the outdoors, and in appreciating the beauty all around me. It’s my goal to visit a new National Park each year.

A sampling of articles range from advice on how to Gear up on the Cheap and recipes for Home Made Energy Bars

The site is only a few months old and growing, but there is already a lot of good content there, so make sure you check it out.

Featured Blog: Amber Turnau

Karl Woll | June 30, 2009 2:24 pm

It’s been a while since I featured a local blog, so thought I’d do a quick profile on a good one I’ve recently found: Amber Turnau’s. With some Whistler flair, Amber posts on a lot of outdoor activities including scuba diving, snowboarding, wake boarding, canoeing, hiking, and mountain biking. As she says on her “About” page:

Hi.  My name is Amber Turnau and am currently living in Whistler, BC, Canada. I’ve always had a passion for writing and even have a journalism diploma (although I currently work in PR). After years of procrastinating, I decided that it was time to have my own space online.

On my blog, you will find randomness. I love to tell stories, so in here you will find all the topics that interest me: love, travel, sex, adventure, fashion, art and sport. I hope you like it!

The blog is definitely worth reading if your looking for a little motivation to get outside and try some new activities. As she mentions, not all her posts are outdoor related, but adventure is definitely an underlying theme, and I particularly like the post Nobody’s Going to Die.

Feature Blog: Tawcan – Confessions Of A Monkey

Karl Woll | February 25, 2009 8:15 am

Confessions of a Monkey is an (oddly named but very interesting) blog  written by Tawcan, who is another local outdoor nut.

My name is Tawcan. Obviously that’s not my real name but I like to keep my real name separate from the internet world. I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada and have various interests ranging from hiking, camping, scrambling, rock climbing, skiing, kayaking, photography, sports, travelling, and reading. My blog is a direct product of these interests.

Tawcan does a lot of great posts about the various trips he does. He’s a weekend warrior that seems to get out into lot of different adventures in different places. He also takes a lot of great pictures. You can also follow @Tawcan on Twitter.
