Capilano Suspension Bridge: Win 4 Free Passes!

Karl Woll | July 13, 2009 10:42 am

Thanks to the fine folks at the Capilano Suspension Bridge (to be specific @Capsuspbridge on Twitter) I have 4 tickets to give away! If you’ve never been to the Suspension Bridge, or if its been a while, you’re missing out.

Your pulse quickens as you step onto the swaying planks of Vancouver’s first visitor attraction. Breathe in the cedar-scented rainforest air as you make your way across Vancouver’s famous landmark. Only minutes away from downtown Vancouver, Capilano Suspension Bridge takes you to the natural splendor of rainforest trails through magnificent evergreens and the unique perspective of Treetops Adventure, a walk high in the trees.

But rather than just give the tickets away, I’m going to make you work (slightly) for them…

In the comment section below, I want to know why you love the outdoors. Just a short comment, for example, on what was your first, or your favorite, ‘outdoor’ experience that got you hooked? Maybe you have a favorite place around Vancouver you go to ‘get away’? What is the one outdoor activity you can never get enough of, why?

Or maybe you hate the outdoors? (But still want to go to the suspension bridge for some reason). Why?  You can’t stand the bugs? A bad experience with ticks? An ill-fated step twisted your ankle miles away from civilization? You can share your outdoor  ‘horror’ story as well.

Pretty simple right? For now I’m going to leave the deadline open, until there are a decent amount of comments. Then I’m going to pick one at random, or if there are some really good stories maybe put it to a reader’s poll. We’ll see, just comment below for a chance to win the tickets!

I can honestly say I’ve passed the Capilano Suspension Bridge on many occasions on the way up to the Grouse Grind, but never had the pleasure of checking out the experience for myself.

I’ll add it to my list for this Summer!

1. why you love the outdoors: Fresh air, breathtaking beauty of the outdoors, the sounds, techno-free!
2. What was your first, or your favorite, ‘outdoor’ experience that got you hooked? My first outdoor experience was when I was 15 years old. My family was living in Pakistan at the time and I had the opportunity to go on a 10 day trek through the Himalayas. At first I was a bit intimidated, but then I couldn’t get enough! I loved the climbing, the dynamics of a hiking group, and the beautiful scenary that not everyone has the chance to see!
3. Maybe you have a favorite place around Vancouver you go to ‘get away’? Whistler!!
4. What is the one outdoor activity you can never get enough of, why? Oh so many! In the summer/fall- I love hiking and running and in the winter- snowboarding.

I love being on the water or staring out at the ocean with nothing but the ocean horizon in sight. Why? Because I can imagine being anywhere in the world, and it is so humbling to see how big of a world that is!!

I grew up spending a lot of time outdoors camping and hiking and fishing, so it’s really hard for me to identify which one experience impacted me the most.

In recent memory, it was Canada Day of 2007 that got me started again after a bit of a hiatus due to proximity limitations.

My friends and I hiked the Squamish Chief and once I got to the top of 2nd peak – I was in love all over again! Have hiked many local and non-local trails since then, including a 4 day trek into the Grand Canyon last year.

Hi,
I never been to Capilano bridge… visiting Vancouver for the 3rd time I think it is time for me to go and see one of the 10 most best attraction of Vancouver!!!
So, if you think the same as me, think about me… before august 7, after we will be back to the office dreaming of a bridge somewhere in the mountains…

Thanks

What I love about the outdoors: I love climbing mountains or finishing a really long hike or getting that climbing route I’ve been working on for days … the feeling of accomplishing something and being rewarded with not only a satisfied feeling, but ridiculously beautiful scenery.

HI! Ok…I have 13 family members traveling to Vancouver, 3 generations, and I am really excited to check out the Capliano Bridge. With or without the tickets we are going to check it out. I just finished mapping our Public Transportation route from the Bayshore Westin up to the Bridge and am now on the search for coupons to help make the visit a little more affordable. Here on the East coast we LOVE to hike the White Mountains together. I get a rush of excitement when you start to pop up over the tree line level and the world around you starts to change. My brother, Sister, & Sister in Law (who are all part of the 13 visiting) love to backpack and camp togther. We’d love to have you send us the tickets, but we are visiting August 13th…so SOON! YEAH! I can’t wait to compare the 2 coasts and their mountains. I have the feeling your coast is going to leave me breathless! The pictures I’ve seen are AMAZING!

I’d like to go because as a Vancouverite I’ve always gone to the Lynn Valley Suspension Bridge, ’cause that one is free;)

I grew up in Ireland, County Wicklow to be exact, known as the ‘Garden of Ireland’ and a beautiful spot. I’ve always loved the outdoors, but after first visiting Vancouver on holiday about 10 years ago, I fell in love with the scenary in this area and I knew I had to move here. And I did, 3 years ago :)

Camping is one of those things I’ll never fully understand; why would anyone pack up a car full of stuff, drive for hours to the middle of nowhere, and then erect a doomed-to-be-insufficient nylon dome for protection and cook meals over a fire? Countless trips back and forth to the car, lugging coolers and uncomfortable campchairs down steep paths, realizing you forgot the propane or towels or god forbid the toilet paper, and then two hours of repacking the car and cleaning up garbage in midday heat while hungover before you head home. Camping is really one of those things that doesn’t make any sense at all.

And yet I love it and can never get enough.

Maybe it’s because of the sunshine, or endless hours spent floating on a lake. Maybe it’s knowing that I have a full two days of doing less than absolutey nothing. Or maybe it’s just that camping is the epitome of good times with good friends, relying only on conversation and stories and an acoustic guitar for entertainment. Whatever its magic is, I love it and it’s got me hooked.

I’ve never been to Cap bridge, would love to check it out. :)

THANK YOU!!!! Truly a wonderful coincidence. My brother is currently not working and is trying desperately not to spend extra money on our trip. Now I can go see what I want to see and gift his family of 4 with the tickets. Its Kismet! Life is Good!
